86. The Book of Wishes

86/1 Chapter:
What kind of wishing is disliked.
باب: مَا يُكْرَهُ مِنَ التَّمَنِي

Mukhtasar Sahih Al-Bukhariعَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : لَوْلاً أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ (ﷺ) يَقُولُ: (لا تَتَمَنَّوُا المَوْتَ). لَتَمَنَّيْتُ .
Narrated Anas
If I had not heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, "You should not long for death, "I would have longed (for it). [9:339-0.B]

Mukhtasar Sahih Al-Bukhariعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ (ﷺ) قَالَ: (لَا يَتَمَنَّينَ أَحَدُكُمْ المَوْتَ، إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَلَعَلَّهُ يَزْدَادُ، وَإِمَّا مُسِينًا فَلَعَلَّهُ يَسْتَعْتِبُ).
Narrated Abu Huraira
(or Sa'd bin ' Ubaid): Allâh's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "None of you should long for death, for if he is a good-doer, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil-doer, he may stop the evil deeds and repent." " [9:341-O.B]
